Theme for the Year 2011: Social Movements and African Renaissance
In 2011, the World Social Forum is taking place on African soil again, this time in Dakar, the capital city of Senegal. From 6th-13th February 2011, representatives from social movements and civil society initiatives will come together under the WSF motto "Another World is Possible" primarily to discuss South-South cooperation. It is for this reason that AfricAvenir International has chosen "Social Movements and African Renaissance" for its theme for the year 2011. Within the framework of diverse events, we would like above all to present the search for and the creation of independent paths of development in Africa from the perspective of civil society, as well as engage in a critical debate on the term and concept of "development". In addition to a touring exhibition on the World Social Forum, we will be organizing e.g. film events, dialogue forums and a symposium. (Photo from the Transnational Institute)
