L'édition BpB de la publication d'AfricAvenir "50 ans d'(in)dépendances africaines - un bilan (auto)critique" epuisé après moins de trois mois!

C'est pleurant d'un oeil et riant d'e l’autre que nous annonçons que la deuxième édition imprimée de notre publication "50 ans d'(in)dépendances africaines - un bilan (auto) critique", après moins de trois mois seulement, est déjà epuisée. Cette deuxième édition était sortie en janvier 2013 dans le cadre de la collection de publications de l'Agence Fédérale pour l'Éducation Civique (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, BpB, Allemagne) avec un tirage de 1,500 exemplaires. Bien évidement, nous sommes extrêmement fiers de ce grand intérêt porté à notre publication. Nous faisons un grand effort afin de pouvoir ré-imprimer le livre dans les plus courts délais. As a conclusion of our 2010 annual topic "50 Years of African In-Dependence", AfricAvenir has invited African intellectuals and activists, poets, performers and writers to critically take stock. The result is a diverse and thought-provoking volume which makes the current debates about independence and decolonization accessible for a German-speaking readership. Also, many of the authors are published in German language for the first time. Whether it is a scholarly article or a historic speech, a poem or the lyrics of a song, the volume offers a manifold and critical access to political, economic and cultural aspects. It does so from an exclusively African perspective which focuses on the entire continent, from South Africa to Algeria, from Senegal to Kenya.

On the one hand, the publication documents lectures which were given by, amongst others, Eboussi Boulaga, Daho Djerbal, Kum’a Ndumbe III. and Ibrahima Tioub within this year’s lecture series in Berlin. These lecture scripts are supplemented by texts written by outstanding authors like Achille Mbembe and Micere Mugo. Further, the publication features sample excerpts from political speeches held by the “fathers” of independence like Lumumba and Nkrumah. The publication also contains a detailed timeline which depicts the historical facts on African independences. 

On the other hand, poems by Chirikure Chirikure and Micere Mugo, lyrics by hip hop musician Didier Awadi, as well as literary works by Shailja Patel, Papi Mbwiti and Abdourahmane Wabéri offer a mainly emotional approach to the subject. All of this is accompanied by Tony Figueira’s photo series of the Namibian independence as well as by photos taken during an educational journey to the DAK’ART 2010 in Senegal.

It is this very mixture of different genres combined in the publication which mirrors the educational work of AfricAvenir – it is intended for a broad and diverse audience coming from different social and professional backgrounds and different age groups.

The volume was produced with the collaboration of young graphic designers of Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle.
