"Do you see me?" - A Film Series in the Framework of "50 Years of African In-Dependences"

With the screening of the classic Hènes by Djibril Diop-Mambety on Sunday, 19 September 2010 at 17.00h AfricAvenir is starting the film series „Do you see me?" in the framework of „50 Years of African In-Dependences", curated by Julien Enoka Ayemba. The formal access of many African states to souvereignty in the 1960s also triggered the development of an African film industry, whose first protagonists positioned their works as anticolonial, which by the way always included the critique of the new African political leadership. It is a cinema that had as an objective to accompany the new states both politically and culturally, but also to lend a voice to its people. With the selected films (feat. some rarities!), film readings and discussions, the series wants to present and discuss some of the milestones and masterpieces of 50 years of African film making.
