Africa Premiere: "The Prince of Malabo" with Director Tawanda Kanhema in Attendance

AfricAvenir presents the Africa Premiere of the documentary Prince of Malabo. Power, Money, and Impunity (2014, 27 min), produced and directed by Tawanda Kanhema (Zimbabwe) who will be in attendance! The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

Synopsis
The Prince of Malabo, directed by (former Namibia based Informanté journalist) Tawanda Kanhema, 27 min, 2014, explores Equatorial Guinea's economic rise and the challenges it faces.

The country's vice president, Teodoro Nguema Obiang, spent US$300 million on mansions, a jet and luxury cars and faces money laundering charges in France and two asset forfeiture cases in the United States. Obiang's father, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, is the world's longest serving head of state, in power since a 1979 coup d'etat.

Journalist Tawanda Kanhema travels from Malibu, California to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to interview the country's new vice president. Kanhema investigates the effects of resource conflict on human rights and development.

A panel discussion will follow the screening.
