He grew up and still lives in Orlando West, Soweto, Johannesburg. His early work reflects influences from diverse sources: the <b>reggae of Caribbean dub<\/b> poets; the political rap of North Americans such as <b>Gil Scot-Heron<\/b>; street poetry as well as elements of dithoko songs, stemming from seSotho traditions. <\/p>\n<p>Rampolokeng has published several poetry collections \u2013 some with German translations \u2013, spoken word albums and two volumes of prose.&nbsp; His elaborate poetic art and biting wordsmith\u2019s tongue have made him <b>one of the most widely sought-after South African poets<\/b> on stages around the world.
