On Sunday, 19 May 2013 at 15h00<\/b>, AfricAvenir, Art Labour Archives and Ballhaus Naunynstra\u00dfe invite you to the German Premiere of \u201cWe are like Oranges\u201d in Presence of Director Cecilia G\u00e4rding<\/b> at Hackesche H\u00f6fe Kino<\/i>. Developed as part of the student Eleza project promoting the participation of Afro-Swedish youth in development in Sweden<\/b> and based on Sweden’s first hip-hop opera<\/b>, the film deals with Afropean decoloniality in Scandinavia<\/b>. A song dedicated to Malcolm X in the background of this opera prima by Cecilia G\u00e4rding reminds us of the ubiquitous legacy of the Black Power movement.nSynopsis<\/b>
By showing an Afro-Swedish man without a troubled or criminal background as the leading hero in her film, Cecilia G\u00e4rding analyzes the racist power-structures that have impacted Swedish artistic production. The film investigates the effects of racist histories and practices on human relationships and the ways in which people can and should fight for positive change. The film also emphasizes the positive contributions that Swedes with an immigrant background have made to Swedish culture.nCecilia G\u00e4rding<\/b> is the leader of Cultural Heritage Agents<\/i>, a project that gives Swedish youth with a foreign background the possibility to analyze the impact of ethnic relations on a variety of art-forms.
