Dakar Trottoirs (Sidewalks of Dakar), directed by Hubert Laba Ndao, is the story of a burning passion between Salla and Siirou in this microcosmic world of the “sidewalks” of Dakar. Here the surrealist characters of a paradoxical theatre intermingle in the heart of the city. Behind the facades of the posh districts which stand alongside the settlements of the have-nots, the “deal” is the rule; grace and misery go hand in hand; sensuality is omnipresent and violence too. Here all dreams are possible but sometimes they become nightmares.
Music by Didier Awadi intensifies this ambiance which makes Siirou's head spin but at the same time fascinates him. The film stars the famous actor Eriq Ebouaney, one more reason do not miss this screening.
In June 2014, at the Festival du cinéma Africain de Khouribga (FCAK) the film won an award for Best actress: (Prudence Maîdou). The scriptwriters for this film were Abdoulaye Tall and Léandre-Alain Baker. The audience might remember Leandre-Alain's film Ramata, which AfricAvenir Windhoek presented in 2012.

About the director
After studying law at the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar and several internships, including one which lasted for 6 months at the PBS Audiovisual Institute and another at the Media Centre of Dakar, the director Hubert Laba Ndao began his film career in 2000 with two short fiction films: Les Infortunés and Le Chemin des ombres. In 2004, he co-directed a 52-minute documentary film with Manuel Gasquet: Blanc de mémoire. He has been working as an Assistant director and then Casting Director for the past ten years on several films which have been shot in Senegal. His telefilm Teuss Teuss, which he directed in 2007, received several awards including Le Python Children (public prize) at the Quintessence festival in Benin in January 2009, the Prize for the Best Feature-Length Drama in the Digital Africa category at the Vues d’Afrique (Views of Africa) festival in Montreal in April 2008 and the Ébène du Public (Public Prize) at the International Neighbourhood Film Festival in 2007. Teuss Teuss was also officially selected to compete at the 2007 Fespaco at Ouagadougou.
