AfricAvenir is very proud to screen the following award-winning short films on the 3rd of July within our children’s programme: ‘Hisab’ and ‘The Animal Party’ by Ezra Wube and ‘The Legend of Ngong Hills’ by Kwame Nyong’o.
Hisab
Ethiopia, 2011, 7min, Ezra Wube, Animation
Synopsis: The film is based on an Ethiopian Urban folk story about the following three animals common to Ethiopian cities: a goat, a donkey and a dog on a taxi ride.

The Animal Party
Ethiopia, 2012, 10min, Ezra Wube, Animation
An animated film based on the Ethiopian folk story about all the animals of the world getting together for a party. Eventually the drink runs out. Who would go to get more?

About Director:
Ezra Wube (born in 1980) is a Brooklyn-based mixed media artist born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His work references shifting time and place, working through video, installation, drawing, painting, and performance. His exhibitions include the Dak’Art 2014 Biennale, Dakar, Senegal (2014); 5TH Marrakech Biennale, Marrakech, Morocco (2014); The 18th International Festival of Contemporary Art SESC_Videobrasil, São Paulo, Brazil (2014); and At the same moment, Time Square Midnight Moment program, New York, NY (2013).
Wube’s awards and residencies include Swing Space, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, New York, NY (2013); The Substation, Johannesburg, South Africa (2011); Contemporary Artists Center Woodside, Troy, NY (2011); Château de la Napoule, France (2011). Wube received his M.F.A. from Hunter College, New York, NY and his B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
The Legend of Ngong Hills

Synopsis:
This story is based on a Maasai folktale. The Jungle Monster attacks a Kenyan village but falls in love with a girl from that village.
Awards: Best Animation award at the 8th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

About Director:
Kwame Nyong'o was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Kenyan and Russian/Scottish immigrant parents. He grew up between Ann Arbor, Michigan and Nairobi, Kenya.
Kwame is an animator, illustrator, musician, writer and filmmaker. His short film "The Legend of Ngong Hills" won the 2012 African Movie Academy Award (AMAA's) for Best Animation in Lagos, Nigeria. He also won the 2011 SIGNIS East Africa Talent Award at the Zanzibar International Film Festival in Zanzibar, Tanzania. He also conceived of, and co-directed, the 2013 Kenyan rock music video, Corder's "Lovin this Home"
