Carlou D is one of the biggest stars of the current Senegalese music scene. He became famous in 2003, as a member of the pioneers of Westafrican Hip-Hop “Positive Black Soul (PBS)”. In 2004 he was celebrated as the “Newcomer of the year” and in 2009 as the best Senegalese artist.
“What I kept up from Hip-Hop in my music is the courage to act straight out”, says the guitarist, singer and exceptional dancer.
With his clear voice Carlou D connects the mystical, spiritual Zicr music of the Baye Fall with the grooves of Funk, the improvisations of Jazz and elements of the Senegales Mbalax and Afropop to create his own, authentic style.
As an all-round solo artist he has released already 4 successful albums, has worked with significant artists like Wasis Diop and Germaine Acogny in the first African opera “Bintou Waren” and is reckoned as a guarantor for an edgy live show, even in top festivals like Peter Gabriel's “WOMAD”.
