AfricAvenir is very proud to screen the multi award-winning film ‘Legacy of Rubies’ by Ebele Okoye In June within our children’s programme. Mfalme, a young forest boy is kidnapped and brought to a strange palace in a place called Airegin, with the claim that he is the blood son of the dying king of Obankosi and the chosen successor to the throne. Not just that, he is given a mandatory assignment which he has to fulfill before he can either accept or reject their offer. So, accompanied by the little palace boy with whom he struck a friendship, he is forced on a journey he least reckoned with.
Director: Ebele Okoye, Duration: 25min, Year of production: 2015, Genre: Animation, Language: English, From: Germany/Nigeria/USA
About Director:
Ebele Okoye grew up in southeastern Nigeria where, like many African filmmakers, oral storytelling was the collective experience of the society. She yearned to share these stories, recounted around the fire, under the moonlight, and it was through the medium of animation filmmaking that she fulfilled that dream.
Because of the dearth of film schools in Nigeria at that time, she went to Germany to study 2D Cartoon Animation at the International Film School Cologne. After graduation, she worked as studio animator and director/producer of her own short films. For The Legacy of Rubies project she partnered with the Nigerian animation production studio Shrinkfish Ltd, the producers of the film.
Awards:

- Best Animation | 2015 Africa International Film Festival
- Best Animation | 2015 Silicon Valley African Film Festival
- Best Animation | 2015 Out of Africa International Film Festival OOAIFF
