Interventionen 2016: Refugees in Arts & Education
.
.
Festival & Conference from 3rd to 4th June 2016 in Berlin
In the course of the ongoing refugee movements nationwide initiatives have emerged that support refugees and welcome them. Also artists, cultural professionals and institutions are involved in facilitating the arrival of refugees. Apart from well-intentioned welcome gestures sustainable steps are necessary to offer long-term prospects for refugees. Evidently, discrimination in the housing and labor market, education and culture does not end with the long-term residence status. While cultural diversity is a long lived reality in everyday life; People with experience of migration and migrant background have changed German society and shape the public debate – despite this, for decades migrant self-organizations have been calling attention on structural exclusions. In the spirit of equal participation in culture, education and society these organizations are fighting for sustainable structural changes. INTERVENTIONEN 2016 will bring together issues of access for people with migrant backgrounds and people with flight experience: What has to happen – also structurally – for cultural, social and political participation to become reality for all people living here? We invite you to a practice oriented exchange from migrant and refugee self-organizations and to develop common perspectives for action and necessary political demands. In addition to a full-day working conference on Friday concerning the topic participation, on Saturday urban space tours are planned, in which selected projects from all over Germany introduce themselves (see: Call for Projects). INTERVENTIONEN 2016 is organized by Kulturprojekte Berlin and funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media by the order of the German Bundestag and the Senate Chancellery Cultural Affairs.
