As part of the tenth anniversary celebrations of the monthly film series “African Perspectives”, AfricAvenir presents Namibian Premiere of “Tahar Cheriaa under the Shadow of the Baobab” on Saturday, 26 November, 2016, 19h00, at the Goethe Institute Namibia.
Director Mohamed Challouf will be in attendance.
“Tahar Cheriaa under the Shadow of the Baobab” documents the undisputed father of Pan-Africanism and founder of film Carthage Film Festival, the first film festival in Africa. The film focuses on his ideas and the projects he was involved in. The film includes interviews and archives, and gives a complete portrait of the man and his fight for African cinema and for the whole cinema of the South. After independence, Tahar deployed all his energy to create the first authentic images of post-colonial Africa. This enabled African cinema to contribute to the modernization of the continent.
DIRECTOR BIO
Born and raised in Sousse, Tunisia. Mohamed Challouf went to Italy to study Language and Italian culture. As a director Mohamed has produced 4 documentaries, titled: Ouaga, Film capital (2002), Don Francesco Pedretti, Mezzo Secolo per un Mondo Intero and Tahar Cheriaa, in the shadow of Baobab.
