Contrary to the provisions of the Constitutional Court and the promises made by LGBTIQ* -Equality-projects that queer* / lesbian / gay relations are a legitimate and integral part of the South African legal and social structure, they still experience different forms of discrimination and violence.
As a collaborative documentary, Displaced: Black and Queer explores the realities of trans* and queer lives and how those realities intersect with blackness in Africa. The film speaks to decolonization, intersectionality, reclaiming space and interrogating the need to constantly having to defend the right to exist as black queers in Africa.
The director will be present and available for a film discussion after the screening. The discussion will take place in English.
