AfricAvenir at BUKO 35: „High time for things to change… African Perspectives on the Energy Transition“, SA, 11.05.2013, 12-13.30h, Munich, Eine Welt Haus

In the framework of BUKO 35 in Munich, AfricAvenir on Saturday, 11 May 2013 from 12h00-13h30 is organising a workshop with Dr. Mostafa El Jamea, senior expert for climate change and renewable energy at GPEC (Greater Phoenix Economic Council) on "High time for things to change… African Perspectives on the Energy Transition".n

In the context of the project "Paradoxes of Sustainability – How socially equitable areb "green" technologies really?" Africa Avenir International e.V. will put out for discussion that renewable energy equals resource use for production of "green" technologies and the push for the "Green Economy". These resources come from resourcerich countries outside Europe. It is evident that the German and European energy transition will have effects on the Global South. But how could the energy transition be designed in a globally just manner without leading merely to the pursuit of pure market strategies under the fig leaf of "green" growth? Based on the expertise of African activists, researchers and energy experts AfricAvenir formulated demands for a globally just energy transition. During BUKO 35 we would like to jointly present, discuss and develop further the most recent version. Our copresenter is Dr. Mostafa El Jamea, senior expert for climate change and renewable energy at GPEC (German Professional Environmental Consultancy) will also present alternatives to the mega project DESERTEC.nSpeakers: Dr. El Mostafa Jamea; moderation: Judith Strohm (AfricAvenir International e.V.)

nThe event takes place in cooperation with AK Panafrikanismus.nThe project "Paradoxes of Sustainability" is financially supported by BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and LEZ (Landesstelle für Entwicklungszusammenarbeit).nWhole BUKO 35 programm: http://www.buko.info/
