Book presentation and dialogue forum with Aziz Fall: Sankara – pan-African visionary in the struggle against neo-colonialism and imperialism, Thursday 1 November 2012, 7pm, GLS-Sprachenzentrum

On the occasion of the publication of "Redécouvrir Sankara – Martyre de la liberté" (a collection of speeches) AfricAvenir invites you on Thursday 1 November 2012 at 7pm to a dialogue forum with the political scientist Aziz Salmone Fall at GLS-Sprachenzentrum. The topic will be “Sankara – pan-African visionary in the struggle against neo-colonialism and imperialism” (the dialogue forum will take place in English!). Aziz Salmone Fall, leader of the international campaign for Justice for Thomas Sankara (the judicial reappraisal of the murder of Sankara), will not only go into details about Sankara’s life, visions and successes but also interpret Sankara in the context of his time. In which national and international context did he take power in Burkina Faso in 1983? What were his most important national and international arrangements in the struggle against neo-colonialism, imperialism and the indebtedness of African countries? Even less known than his national official acts are his internationalist engagement within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement as well as the Trikont, his clear position to Palestine and to the Apartheid regime of South Africa and also his support of the Latin American liberation movement. Finally the dialogue forum will deal with the question of how topical Sankara’s ideas and visions still are today – 25 years after his assassination. What significance does he have for the pan-African thinking of the youth on the continent and in the diaspora? What can  progressive powers learn from Sankara’s “geopolitical disobedience” about the insidious re-colonisation and destabilisation of the continent?nThe occasion for this dialogue forum is the publication of a collection of Sankara’s speeches by Ndongo Samba Sylla (editor): “Redécouvrir Thomas Sankara – Martyre de la liberté” published by Editions AfricAvenir / Exchange & Dialogue in cooperation with the RosaLuxemburgFoundation. The volume will first be released in French and contains some of Sankara’s most important speeches as well as analyses of Samir Amin, Aziz Fall and Bruno Jaffré (and others). Aziz Fall wrote the epilogue to this volume. AfricAvenir Berlin will publish a German version in 2013.nThe event takes place with support of LEZ, Foundation Umverteilen and the Rosa-Luxemburg-Foundation.nPlease also consider the |+| One-day workshop with Aziz Fall: Thomas Sankara – life, vision and international struggle against impunity, Saturday, 3.11.2012, 10-17:30, in the GLS Sprachenzentrum as well.nAziz Salmone Fall
