No Amnesty on Genocide! Namibia’s struggle for recognition and restorative justice for the genocide 1904–08 – Dialogue forum with Ida Hoffmann on Thursday, 24 October 2013 at 7pm at Haus der Demokratie und Menschenrechte

In the framework of her journey through Germany on the invitation of the |+| 4th Panafrican Congress in Munich and on behalf of Namibia’s restitution and reparation claims towards Germany, AfricAvenir in cooperation with Berlin Postkolonial, the Working Group Pan-Africanism Munich (Arbeitskreis Panafrikanismus München – AKPM) and the NGO Alliance “No Amnesty on Genocide!” would like to invite you on Thursday, 24 October 2013 at 7 pm to a Dialogue Forum with Ida Hoffmann, president of the “Nama Technical Committee” from Namibia. The topic will be: “No Amnesty on Genocide! Namibia’s struggle for recognition and reparation for the genocide 1904–08”. Over 100 years after the imperial “Schutztruppe” perpetrated the first genocide of the 20th century in the colony German Southwest-Africa and was responsible for shipping human remains of the murdered for racist “research” to Germany, the descendants of the victims still have to fight for an official German apology. Since Namibia’s independence 1990 Herero and Nama demand symbolic as well as material reparation. Even more so, as they still suffer until today economically and socially from the consequences of the genocide and the expropriation of their land. Ida Hoffmann as the president of the “Nama Technical Committee” will report about the demands and the current situation of the dispute with Germany.nIda Hoffmann was born in 1947 in Karasburg in the South of the then by the Apartheid – South Africa colonized “South West Africa” which is now Namibia. During the 1980s she was a part of the SWAPO’s anti-colonial liberation struggle. From 2005–10 she was a be the President appointed Member of the Namibian Parliament, and since then advocates for an official recognition and apology for the German colonial genocide.
