AfricAvenir Our Services

Our Services

In view of securing our independence, AfricAvenir has developed several “revenue generating” activities which should ideally help sustain most of our recurrent monthly cost (rent, Web Space, Telephone) and enable us to react to political events and rather spontaneously organize activities without having to ask for funding.

Distribution of Books, CDs and DVDs

AfricAvenirs mission is to disseminate African perspectives through all possible ways. This includes the productions and products of like-minded institutions and organisations like e.g. CODESRIA, Pambazuka, Chimurenga etc. We do this through our website (see our shop) and through the display of these books, DVDs and CDs at all our many events throughout the year. If you have products on offer which fit our vision and mission, please contact us at: info@africavenir.org. We take these products on commission and do a professional balancing, keeping the usual reseller fee of 30%.

Curation of Film Festivals or Film Series

AfricAvenirs expertise lies particularly in the film sector. For more than 10 years, we have been organizing a monthly film series, sometimes also festivals and film-workshops. We would thus gladly assist you in organizing a film series, film days or festivals and also offer to take over the curation. Please contact us at: info(at)africavenir.org

Translation & Subtitling of African Films

AfricAvenir has acquired a lot of experience in the translation and subtitling of films, both documentaries, shorts and feature films. In the political context of Euro-African relations, this requires as much political and historical knowledge as language and translation skills. Some examples are: Otelo Burning (Otelo – Der Preis der Freiheit), Président Dia, Mère-Bi (Meine Mutter), Le point de vue du lion (The Lion’s Point of View/Der Standpunkt des Löwen), Cameroun – Autopsie d’une indépendance (Kamerun – Autopsie einer Unabhängigkeit), Sur les traces de Thomas Sankara, Cabralista, Juju Factory. Most of the subtitling is done from French/English into German, but we also have done English or French subtitles. Feel free to contact us if you have such a subtitling project: info(at)africavenir.org
